When my ship comes in…

Forever 21 Oxfords, Forever 21 Leopard Socks, Forever 21 Striped Bodycon Skirt, Mr K Dress Shirt, Misty Lang Prancing Pony Pendant, Op Shop Bangles, Factorie Silver Ring, Wild Pair Studs.

My husband has been a lot happier this year- he got a new boss who he gets along well with (and doesn’t force his team to work like slaves), and there’s new administration staff that do above and beyond their job (Disclaimer: My husband cannot be held responsible for what I write). For example, this Christmas corporate dinner. Not only did we do something other than the uninspired restaurant/pub dinner, but she managed to get it sorted well in advance so I could book hair/beauty appointments without competing with a thousand other men and women doing exactly the same thing.

I also had time to research what I should wear. I have been on boats before for 21st birthdays and cruises, but not for a corporate event. I decided to go for a formal, nautical look with my striped skirt, dressy shirt, and blazer (not pictured). I also erred on the side of safety and wore smart oxfords so I wouldn’t end up tottering uneasily as the ship swayed about. You could argue that showing leg and cleavage are very naughty but I figured it would only be tasteless if I were wearing heels.

I was psyched to finally have an excuse to visit Pony Xpress, and I was not disappointed. Rachel did a great job giving me a glamorous windswept look (she figured that if my hair did get windswept it would then look deliberate) and she was a really great conversationalist. I also had my brows done at Forever Shine and was so impressed at the service I made them my regular beauty salon.

The Soren Larson was an amazing tall ship (it’s apparently 62 years old!) and everyone sat around on the deck drinking and shooting the breeze while we sailed around the harbour. Then we stopped the engines and had a buffet dinner (the view made the food taste even more delicious) and we watched the sun set over the Auckland skyline. Then we headed into the Viaduct and we finished off the night by dragging all the cool co-workers into a private room at the Brew on Quay for one last drink.

It was the most fun I’d had in ages, and I only wish I’d been able to make a full-blown night of it…but alas, I had a sale to attend the morning after!
